On the other hand, this airport is popular among people who love airplanes as it is located in the city people can go close to a runway as well as there are many flights everyday. Here's the appeal of Fukuoka airport.
Fukuoka airport is located near the center of the city just 2 station away from Hakata station and is accessible. The planes can be seen so often even in the city.
Different from Haneda, Kansai, Chubu airport, a runway is approachable since there's an urban area near the airport so that the powerful taking offs and landings can be seen.
The recommended spot is prefectural road 551 which is located the northern runway between Enokida Central Park and a runway. It leads to just under the airplane flying off and landing from the northern side and a huge plane flies through over your head with a breakneck speed and a roaring sound.
The other recommendation is a prefectural road 45 which comes through the eastern side of the airport. It is close to a taxiway as well so that the planes moving from a runway to a terminal can be seen.
The direction of taking off and landing depends on the wind direction. When the plane flies from the southern side, the place called "a baseball field aside" along the prefectural road 574 near Tsukiguma 3 Chome. The dynamic view of the plane with full throttle and some pilots can wave their hands.
Although the airport has an enormous number of flights, there is only one runway. That's why many airplanes are departing and arriving so often. The interval would be even less than 2 mins on peak. As the planes come one after another, it will not make you get tired of the view.
There are many types of planes such as Cessna, Boeing 777, and even helicopters and fighters. Fukuoka airport would be the only one that all those planes above can be seen that close.
The airport can be used only for a transit when travelling, however, you will be overwhelmed with the power of the planes even if you are not a big fan of them. When visiting Fukuoka, it is a good idea to go watch the planes.
